is a well known face in the southern piping world,
and is quickly making a name for himself
in the folk music scene.
Billing alongside the likes of Eliza Carthy and Eric Roche.
Robert learnt to play the pipes at the age of 14
with St. Andrews pipe band in Eastbourne.
He was given a good grounding in the art of piping
by P/M George Henderson and Joe Sommerville,
both of whom are excellent pipers.
Once the basics were mastered Robert's instruction
was taken over by Hamilton Bracken,
an awesome grade 1 piper who at the time was
playing for the St. Lawrence O'Toole pipe band.
One year after taking up the pipes Robert won gold
at the 15-18 solo piping at Cranford.
After spending a spell with the Pride of Murray pipe band,
he joined his local band 1066 Pipes and Drums. After five years as Pipe seargent, Robert left 1066 to form the Robertson Piping and Drumming Academy. Robert is also the Pipe Major of the Academy Band.
Having made a return to competitive solo piping in 2006, Robert won Gold in his first senior solo contest.
1st place, Amateur 2/4 March. Colechester ,June 2006.
In 2007 Robert moved up into the "Open" catagory.
Results;
3rd place in the 'Open Piobaireachd' at Reading, June 2007.
2nd place in the 'open MSR' at Stotfold, March 2008.
Robert is currently working on an album
of original compositions and traditional tunes.
